About Tracy

Tracy Edmunds is an educational consultant, project manager, curriculum developer, editor, and writer with over two decades of extensive and varied experience.  Twelve years as a classroom teacher and *cough* many years of project management, curriculum development, writing, and editing give her the knowledge, skills, and experience to produce great results for her clients.

Tracy's content experience is diverse and extensive, ranging from authoring teacher resource books on pre-K mathematics to developing an online K-12 environmental education curriculum. She has edited professional books on arts integration and educational technology, and written and edited lessons and teacher guides on using comics in the classroom. She also manages websites, online advertising, and social media for non-profits.

Tracy keeps up to date on the latest educational practice and research and works extensively with the Common Core State Standards, Next Generation Science Standards, Depth of Knowledge, and Understanding by Design/backwards planning. As a freelance professional, she is well versed in communication technologies which allow her to work effectively with clients anywhere in the world.

  • Curriculum development and writing: select and write to appropriate standards; create developmentally appropriate activities; write lessons and lesson plans, including objectives, materials, vocabulary, and procedures; design and write student materials and assessments; write introductory and background material for teachers and administrators
  • Developmental and substantive editing: create or review scope and content; assess quality and content of manuscripts; provide specific, actionable feedback to authors; write or rewrite to improve structure, content, and pedagogy
  • Editorial project management: identify and evaluate competition; create and manage production schedules and budgets; communicate and coordinate with authors, designers, and illustrators; prepare manuscripts, including fact checking, securing permissions, and photo/illustration research; review and correct proofs and galleys
  • Educational website management and marketing: design, create, and manage websites; write and manage blogs; manage social media accounts; plan and execute publicity and customer communication; analyze and report on website and social media metrics

Personal

Besides comics, which she reads voraciously, Tracy enjoys British mystery shows and novels, Victoriana, old horror movies, and anything related to Halloween. She is the proud mother of two daughters working toward BFAs at Chapman University. Tracy, her husband Dan, and Labrador retrievers Rosella and Herman live in Southern California where they enjoy spending time at local dog parks and Disneyland.
